I have never seen anything like this before, Carnovsky, an Italian studio created this wallpaper for the Milan design week. The wallpaper reacts to different coloured light! They feature overlapping illustrations, different elements of the images appear when each different light is directed at them, depending on wether its red, blue or green light.
They have done one focusing on the animal kingdom and one on the human body - these images are from the human body project:

Normal light:

Red Light:

Blue light:

Green light:

I can imagine this type of work in night clubs or bars, it would create a fantastic ever changing atmosphere!

I have just stumbled across a magazine called Aesthetica. This is how they describe themselves on their website:

Aesthetica engages with contemporary art, contextualising it within the larger cultural framework. Founded in 2002, Aesthetica Magazine is one of Britain's leading art publications.

Exploring the varied nature of the arts and recognising the dynamics of contemporary culture, Aesthetica pushes the boundaries and evokes debate around today's most important topics. Bringing a fresh perspective to the national forum, Aesthetica is at the forefront of contemporary arts by critically engaging with visual art, film, music, literature and theatre.

Aesthetica is widely distributed throughout the UK and is available from WH Smith, independent newsagents and select galleries. Aesthetica is also distributed internationally and is available in the following countries: USA, Canada, Brazil, France, Germany, Portugal, Italy, Belgium, Japan, Australia and New Zealand. Click here to find a store near you.

Aesthetica is published six times per year with issues being released 1 February, 1 April, 1 June,
1 August, 1 October and 1 December.

They are running a 'Short Film Competition' which can include genres of films ranging from documentaries to Artist's films etc.
The deadline for this competition is this Friday, but I wouldn't have been able to enter it anyway just because I am focusing all my attention on my Final Major Project films. It is just encouraging to see that these types of competitions go on all the time throughout the year and it has given me the courage to try and enter one once I have some time on my hands and my degree work is all done and dusted!
I will definitely follow Aesthetics Blog now, and keep my eye out for their magazine next time I go into WHSmiths!

AntiVJ - Crea Composite: Nuit Blanche Bruxelles (Research)

AntiVJ & Crea Composite: Nuit Blanche Bruxelles from AntiVJ / Joanie on Vimeo.

This live visual was shown in Brussels, Belgium in 2008 at Mont Des Arts. The visual artists involved were Yannick Jacquet, Jeremie Peeters and Joanie Lemercier. This music is by Thomas Vaquie.
I am drawn to this particular piece because of the type of visuals they have used in it. In the others I have posted up, everything looks straight edged and blocked, obviously 3D, Whereas this type of visual does look 3D, but more footage like, more abstract/experimental footage. This type of imagery that they have used is more my style and it is very encouraging for me to think that this type of abstract visuals could be projected onto canvas's such as buildings etc. I especially like the visuals at the very beginning of this piece - even though i am in awe of the 3D bricks etc, it isn't really the style that I am into.
I've included this video also just to show what goes on behind the scenes - you only get a little taster, but you can clearly tell how much effort and preparation goes into one of these events!

AntiVJ Visual Projects (Research)

I have done a previous post quite a while ago now about AntiVJ which is a visual label.
This visual label production did an AudioVisual in June 2009 in France. The music is by Thomas Vaquie and the visual artists involved are all artists who participate in the AntiVJ label: Yannick Jacquet, Joanie Lemercier, Olivier Ratsi and Romain Tardy.

I really do think that this kind of visual is absolutely amazing and even considered basing my Final Major Project on projecting onto buildings just because it really interests me how you can completely transform a structure. You have that control of completely manipulating the structure of a building.
It isn't just buildings that I have seen them do this brilliant visual technique on, in this particular video they project onto a ship - It was taken place at the Mutek Festival in Montreal, Canada in 2009. The installation is called 'Tour Des Convoyeurs' and was created by Olivier Ratsi, Joanie Lemercier and Thomas Vaquie.

I am absolutely blown away by this type of work, I am just in awe of it all I really am. The structure of the visuals linked with the audio that they use is very dramatic and extremely atmospheric - I will definitely be doing a lot more research into this kind of work, wether or not I would pursue anything of it, I'm not sure yet, but I will definitely look into it, even just for my own interest!

I think it is a fantastic idea, each time i go on the website i see something different that i hadn't noticed before! I will definitely be keeping my eye on this website in the future to check out the new GIFS that are added everyday!

Drive (2009) from Mike Celona on Vimeo.

I have applied to an Experimental Film Discussion List, where they have weekly listings of Avant Garde Cinema films where they mention particular films that may be an interest or they feel deserves mentioning in some way.
The Film maker, Mike Celona describes this piece on his website as:
Dreamlike ride through Rochester, NY during a heavy rain storm as seen through the passenger side window of a car in which the water streaking across the glass causes the landscape to seemingly melt into another world. Features an original soundtrack consisting of multiple layers of electric bass and keyboards fed through tremolo and stereo delay pedals and recorded to analog tape.
I am really interested in the visuals that Celona has produced here - I like the idea of just capturing things that already look distorted - It reminded me of the way I was capturing footage for my Final Major Project. i was mainly focusing on the reflections in water barrels and at ponds etc These are just a few images of them here:

March 15th - April 10th 2010, 2011, 2012 Cumbria & Lancashire
September 2010 & 2012 Manchester & Cheshire
2011 Liverpool

This information was taken from their 'Fan Page' on Facebook. Emma Macklin sent me the link to it and explained that they were taking part in it by creating visuals which would play on a loop throughout the whole festival.
The whole piece is on their website: www.meandyoustudio.com
Emma had mentioned that the type of footage that they had captured reminded her of the photo stills that I have included on my facebook profile of my final major footage stills. She was drawn to the fact that we had both used foliage in the current projects we were both working on.
I have watched their piece, and found it extremely mesmerising and was drawn to the style that they had used - this isn't their usual style that they would work with, but I feel that it works really well together!
Below are a few stills I have taken from this particular project, I am extremely drawn to the style of it all, and I think they have done a fantastic job on it!

I will have to keep my eye out for it in September 2010 as it mentions that the festival will take place in Manchester!
