I found this movie called 'Drift' that Max Hattler has created. It relates to my self-directed project very well and as soon as i first saw it i was amazed at how his ideas for this short film are similar to my own. There are extreme close ups of the body, mainly the skin. The lines and creases are extremely emphasised and Hattler uses the body as a metaphorical landscape which in some places makes its audience feel uncomfortable and confused about what they are actually seeing? Tension in the music mirrors the visuals and the atmosphere of the piece overall is mysterious and unfamiliar of the most familiar thing we see and touch everyday.

I have been influenced by this short film as it ticks most of the factors i am considering using myself in a short film representing the body in a mysterious and confusing way. The main focus of this piece is experimental - which i am drawn to.

I have just found a photographer that experiments with long exposures. In one experiment he shot 156 photos of bugs and insects flying around a lamp post, with each photo taken at a 4 second exposure - resulting in lots of bright lines traveling in different directions around this pole.
He then thought it would be a good little experiment to put all of these photographs together at 12 frames per second to create a short film. I admire this film as it shows exposures catching what the naked eye cannot see - I think this relates to my own ideas as I will be using a lot of Blurring techniques made by long exposures, which will create shapes that the naked eye cannot see!

This music video really caught my eye due to the textures and vibrant colours used.

"It was all done with after effects, particular v2, soundkeys and a little starglow.

I first imported the audio and set up 2 soundkeys layers, one for the piano and one for the strings.
Then i worked the particles and the particle subsystem and linked things like the emission, the turbulence, the velocity, the spin amplitude and the strenght of the fields to the soundkeys outputs. Then i set up the colors with 2 different palettes, and well, after that there was a lot of trial and error in order to achieve what i was looking for. There's a lot of randomness involved in here, so there was also a lot of luck, of course."

I like how the visuals match up with the beats of the music in this interesting way ....

By finding this video, I then looked into other video's by Olafur Arnalds and came across a song called 3055. I was first attracted to it by the root like animation and the atmosphere created by the music and the growing lines. Dancers then start to appear in the video, along with different parts of the body being hidden and then exposed with the lighting techniques. I think this relates to my own ideas for my self directed project as it represents the body in an interesting and different way. At first I thought the growing lines represented Trees or roots, however after watching the video again and having 'the body' on my mind I can see how the lines could relate to veins and different creases within and around the body - I think it is all about perception of the visuals you see to make it into something you can relate to.

I have spent quite a while trying to find out who designed and made the video but i'm getting nowhere with my search really. If anybody can help me answer which company made this video I would be very grateful!
